Bengaluru Court Sentences Power TV MD for Contempt of Court
Court Ruling Against Power TV's MD
A Bengaluru court has sentenced Rakesh Shetty, the Managing Director of Power TV, to three months in prison for violating a court order that prohibited the channel from airing defamatory content against former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer B. R. Ravikant Gowda.
Currently serving as the Inspector General of Police for the Eastern Range of Karnataka, Gowda was the subject of the court's protective order.
The Bengaluru Rural District Court stated, "The defendant has violated or disobeyed the interim injunction issued by this court on September 8, 2023."
In delivering the order, Senior Civil Judge Abdul Saleem remarked that the petitioner had "unequivocally demonstrated that the defendant deliberately disobeyed the injunction order."
Citing evidence, the judge noted that the channel aired programs on September 22 and 23, 2023, including a show titled 'Power Breaking,' which discussed the petitioner's character in a negative light.
