Bengaluru Café Worker Assaulted Over Extra Coffee Request

Incident at Namma Filter Coffee

A disturbing incident highlighting the increasing aggression towards service staff occurred at a popular café in Bengaluru. On July 2, 2025, around 6:50 PM, a worker at Namma Filter Coffee in Seshadripuram was violently attacked by a group of customers after he declined their request for an additional coffee cup.

The customers, who had already purchased a cup of coffee, insisted on receiving another unused cup to share. When the employee politely informed them that company policy prohibits free extra cups, the situation escalated. He suggested they purchase an additional cup, but this led to verbal abuse and ultimately physical violence.

CCTV footage from the café captured the entire incident, showing the worker trying to reason with the customers before being struck on the head. He was subsequently punched in the face and kicked multiple times in the stomach. This shocking video has gone viral, igniting public outrage and calls for better protection for frontline workers.

A formal complaint has been lodged at the Seshadripuram Police Station, and authorities are currently investigating the matter. While the identities of the assailants remain unknown, officials are reviewing the CCTV footage to identify those responsible and take appropriate action.

This incident adds to a growing list of violent encounters reported in Bengaluru, where customer entitlement has led to aggressive outbursts against service personnel, including delivery workers and auto drivers. Observers note that a culture of violence and disrespect is becoming increasingly normalized, particularly in urban areas.

The service industry, already struggling with workforce shortages and demanding hours, now faces the additional challenge of ensuring the safety and well-being of its employees. As the investigation continues, there is mounting pressure from the public and colleagues for justice and enhanced protections for workers who interact directly with customers.
