Bengaluru, Nov 6: A disturbing case has emerged in Bengaluru where a cab driver has been apprehended for the alleged murder of seven relatives from his wife's family, including his spouse and a young boy, following a domestic altercation.
The suspect, named Indushekhar, was taken into custody by the Rajajinagar police. The remains of seven-year-old Puneeth were discovered near Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapur district, while efforts are ongoing to locate the bodies of the other victims. The murders, which are believed to have occurred two days prior, were only recently uncovered.
The deceased have been identified as Roopavathi from Srirampura, along with her daughter Sunitha, sons Shivakumar and Shankar, daughters-in-law Divya and Nalini, and her grandson Puneeth.
Initial police reports indicate that Indushekhar married Sunitha approximately 20 years ago. The couple reportedly had ongoing conflicts regarding Sunitha's close ties with her family, which her mother and brothers supported, inciting the accused's anger.
Authorities suggest that Indushekhar may have premeditated the murders. He allegedly began by killing his wife at their home using a grinding stone and then misled her family into believing she was away on a trip with friends.
Indushekhar is accused of luring his brothers-in-law, Shivakumar and Shankar, to his residence under the guise of sharing drinks, where he subsequently murdered them. He is also implicated in the deaths of their wives, Nalini and Divya, his mother-in-law Roopavathi, and young Puneeth.
The case was uncovered when Nalini was reported missing, prompting her mother to file a complaint with the Srirampura police. During the investigation, inconsistencies in Indushekhar's statements raised suspicions.
A search of his residence reportedly uncovered evidence related to the crimes. During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to the murders.
Authorities stated that the suspect disposed of the bodies in various locations around Nandi Hills. After nearly four hours of searching, Puneeth's body was recovered. Efforts to locate the other victims are ongoing.
Indushekhar is accused of cleaning up blood evidence and washing the grinding stone used in the killings. Police have also confiscated the vehicle believed to have been used to transport the bodies.
Senior police officials, including West Division Joint Commissioner Vamsi Krishna and North Division DCP Nemagowda, are overseeing the investigation. A specialized team of three Assistant Commissioners of Police has been established under the DCP's direction to find the remaining bodies and collect further evidence.
Preliminary information reveals that Indushekhar operated a newspaper called 'Thana Varadi' and had been residing in a rented property near Bhashyam Circle for the last eight years. Investigators are also looking into a dispute between him and the landlord of his residence.
Investigations into this horrific case are ongoing.
