Bengaluru Approves New Elevated Flyover to Alleviate Traffic Congestion

Bengaluru's New Infrastructure Initiative
Bengaluru has taken a significant step to address its longstanding traffic issues by approving a 1.5-kilometer elevated flyover that will connect the new Prestige Beta Tech Park directly to the Outer Ring Road (ORR). This infrastructure project, sanctioned by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), is expected to significantly reduce congestion on Old Airport Road and the Kariyammana Agrahara corridor.
Details of the Flyover Project
The Prestige Group is moving forward with plans for the 1.5-kilometer elevated roadway. According to reports from a local media outlet, the flyover will run alongside a public road and pass by a stormwater drain. The project has received the green light from Bengaluru's civic agency, BBMP. In exchange for permission to construct on public land, Prestige has committed to widening the congested Kariyammana Agrahara Road and will cover the entire cost of the flyover from its own resources.
Timeline and Expectations
Prestige initially submitted a proposal to BBMP in August 2022 and later revised it at the end of 2023. The company cited severe traffic congestion on major access routes, particularly Old Airport Road and Kariyammana Agrahara Road via Yemalur. With the upcoming launch of the Prestige Beta Tech Park, it is anticipated that over 5,000 employees will be accommodated. The project received approval following discussions with Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar in April of this year. BBMP officials have stipulated that the new flyover must remain accessible to the general public, not just Prestige employees.
