Bear Attack Leaves Youth Injured in Koraput District: Community Rallies for Help


In a distressing incident on Tuesday morning, a young man from Mirialpadu village, located in the Pottangi block of Koraput district, sustained severe injuries due to a bear attack while tending to cattle near a local hill.


The injured individual, named Pamia Balu, was quickly aided by nearby villagers who responded to his cries for assistance. They successfully scared off the bear by throwing stones and promptly arranged for an ambulance to take Balu to the Pottangi community health center for immediate medical attention. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was later transferred to Saheed Laxman Naik Medical College and Hospital in Koraput for advanced treatment.


Residents expressed frustration, claiming that no officials from the Forest Department had arrived at the scene even hours after the attack.


In response to the situation, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) KV Ravana Rao confirmed that the necessary support would be extended to the victim and mentioned that a Ranger would be dispatched to investigate the incident.
