Farmer Attacked by Bear While Guarding Crops


Koraput: In a shocking incident, a 60-year-old farmer was gravely injured during a bear attack early Thursday in the Gumuda panchayat of Kotpad block, located in Odisha's Koraput district, as reported by local officials.


The injured individual, Radha Chalan, was tending to his maize crops near the Indravati river, an area known for wildlife encounters.


Sources indicate that while Chalan was resting around 4 AM, a bear emerged from adjacent sugarcane fields and attacked him.


He suffered significant injuries to his face and head. Upon hearing his distress calls, fellow farmers rushed to assist and managed to rescue him.


Chalan was subsequently transported to the sub-divisional hospital in Jeypore, where he is currently receiving critical medical care.
