BCCI Plans Review Meeting

Following India's significant 3-0 defeat in the T20I series against England, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced plans for a review meeting with key team members. This meeting will take place after the conclusion of the ODI series, where India lost the fourth match by nine wickets in Bristol.

Focus of the Review Meeting

Devajit Saikia, the Board Secretary, confirmed that the meeting will concentrate on analyzing the team's on-field performances and identifying corrective actions after a disappointing tour of England and Ireland. Saikia described the series loss as a 'purely bad phase' and acknowledged that such downturns can occur in international cricket. He expressed optimism that the team would return to form, stating, 'Once the ODI series concludes on July 19 and the team returns, we will hold a review meeting to discuss the issues faced in England.'

Meeting Agenda

Saikia elaborated on the meeting's agenda, emphasizing that it will strictly address team performance and potential improvements. 'We will not discuss anything else,' he added.

Recent Performance Overview

India's review follows a disappointing T20I series in both Ireland and England. Under the leadership of newly appointed captain Shreyas Iyer, the team lost the five-match series after a nine-wicket defeat in the fourth T20I at Bristol, which gave England an unassailable 3-0 lead. The first match ended without a result, and India had previously faced a clean sweep against Ireland in T20Is.

In the second T20I, India lost by four wickets, and in the third match, they suffered a heavy defeat by 125 runs, being bowled out for just 76 while chasing a target of 202.

This series marks India's second consecutive T20I series loss, following a 2-0 defeat to Ireland earlier this year, marking the first bilateral series loss to Ireland in the shortest format. Both defeats occurred after the BCCI replaced Suryakumar Yadav, the captain who led India to victory in the 2026 T20 World Cup, with Iyer as the new T20I skipper.

Despite Iyer's impressive performance, scoring 80 runs off 49 balls in Bristol, India's total of 158/7 was insufficient as England chased it down in just 13.5 overs, led by captain Harry Brook's 79 runs off 35 balls and Phil Salt's 59 runs off 42 balls. This victory also marked England's first bilateral T20I series win over India in a multi-match contest.

Looking Ahead

India now aims to conclude the T20I series on a high note before shifting their focus to the upcoming ODI series.
