New Guidelines for Team Celebrations

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to introduce new rules mandating that all cricket teams secure prior approval from relevant authorities before hosting any victory celebrations. This decision follows a tragic incident during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) celebration, where a stampede near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium resulted in 11 fatalities and 30 injuries.

RCB celebrated their first IPL championship after defeating Punjab Kings in the final held in Ahmedabad. Investigations are ongoing, and the BCCI has formed a three-member committee tasked with creating guidelines for celebrations following tournaments.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia mentioned, “The draft report will be completed within 15 days, aiming for a deadline of June 30.”

As reported, the committee will require any victorious team to obtain permissions from the relevant state government, including police clearance, and also from the BCCI.

Following their IPL victory, RCB's celebration at Chinnaswamy Stadium, which has a capacity of around 30,000, attracted an overwhelming crowd of nearly 200,000, leading to the unfortunate stampede.
