Sources within the BCCI indicate that Suryakumar Yadav is likely to step down from his captaincy role, with Shreyas Iyer anticipated to take over as the new skipper for the T20 format. Despite leading India to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, where they successfully defended their title and became the first team to win the trophy on home soil, Yadav's performance in the IPL 2026 season, where he scored only 270 runs, may jeopardize his position in the squad.

Upcoming Matches and Iyer's Comeback

India is scheduled to face Ireland in two T20Is and will play five T20Is against England starting June 26. Shreyas Iyer, who last participated in an international T20I against Australia in December 2023, is set to return to the national team following an impressive IPL 2026 season with Punjab Kings, where he amassed 498 runs.

Potential Candidates for Captaincy
