New Access Control Measures by BCCI

On Friday, Rajeev Shukla, the Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), announced the introduction of enhanced access control measures for players during the Indian Premier League (IPL). These measures aim to bolster discipline and ensure adherence to tournament protocols.

During a press conference in Lucknow, Shukla explained that the new regulations will limit player access and prohibit unauthorized meetings with cricketers in hotels, team buses, and other restricted areas. This initiative is designed to enhance transparency and tighten security during the tournament. "The BCCI is implementing new rules to control player access; unauthorized individuals will not be permitted to meet players in hotels or on buses, ensuring IPL transparency," he stated.

BCCI Secretary Addresses Irregularities

Shukla's comments followed a statement from BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, who indicated that the board would issue a strict advisory to all IPL franchises due to several "anomalies and irregularities" identified during the current season involving players, team officials, and unauthorized individuals.

Saikia noted that the BCCI had observed multiple breaches of anti-corruption and security protocols, including unauthorized persons accompanying team members, accessing team hotels, and entering players' or officials' rooms. He expressed concern over franchise owners and officials interacting with players in restricted areas where such access is prohibited under IPL regulations.

Seriousness of the Situation

Saikia emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that the BCCI and IPL governing body would issue a formal advisory to reinforce compliance with tournament protocols. He warned that any future violations would result in "very stringent action" from the board. "We have observed various anomalies and irregularities in the conduct of certain franchises and players. Therefore, BCCI and IPL are preparing an advisory, which will be released this evening. We have noticed many unauthorized individuals moving with team members, entering hotels, and accessing players' or officials' rooms, which violates our anti-corruption protocols. We have also seen team owners and officials mingling with players in restricted areas. We take this matter very seriously and will enforce the advisory strictly. Any future violations will lead to severe consequences," Saikia informed reporters.

Previous Disciplinary Actions This Season

Earlier in the season, the IPL has already seen disciplinary actions. Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Riyan Parag was penalized for smoking an e-cigarette in the dressing room during a match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), resulting in a fine of 25% of his match fee and a demerit point. Additionally, RR manager Ravinder Singh Bhinder was fined Rs 1 lakh for using a mobile phone near the dugout during a match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium on April 10.
