BCCI Enhances Duleep Trophy Viewing Experience Amid Restrictions
BCCI's Commitment to Spectator Experience
Devajit Saikia, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance the experience for spectators. He mentioned that the BCCI is evaluating various suggestions to improve fan engagement, with ample time to consider these proposals. This year, the organization has significantly increased the number of Duleep Trophy matches available for live broadcast, a notable change from previous years when only a few matches were aired.
Saikia explained that government regulations currently limit the number of spectators allowed at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. While these restrictions cannot be bypassed, close family members or friends of team players are permitted to attend. To compensate for the limited physical attendance, the organizers have ramped up live television coverage, enabling fans to follow their favorite players and teams during the Duleep Trophy matches.
"We will consider the suggestions. There is still time for that. We will evaluate this aspect, and if necessary, we will implement changes. For now, we have increased the number of matches broadcast live compared to last year, which had very few matches aired," Saikia stated during a press conference in Bengaluru.
VVS Laxman Supports the Centre of Excellence
VVS Laxman, head of the BCCI's Centre of Excellence, defended the facility amid concerns regarding the rising number of player injuries. He emphasized that injuries are an unavoidable aspect of a cricketer's career and that the focus should be on effectively monitoring and managing player health rather than assigning blame to the CoE.
Currently, several prominent players, including Jasprit Bumrah, Sai Sudharsan, Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Washington Sundar, are facing fitness issues. Laxman remarked, "The CoE is not just a rehabilitation center; it plays a crucial role in helping cricketers achieve their best performance."
