BCCI Expresses Condolences Over Pahalgam Attack
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 23: Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has voiced his shock and sorrow regarding the tragic loss of life resulting from the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
“The cricket community is profoundly saddened by the horrific loss of innocent lives in the brutal attack at Pahalgam yesterday. On behalf of the BCCI, I strongly condemn this cowardly act and extend our deepest sympathies to the grieving families, while also praying for the souls of the departed. We stand united in this moment of tragedy,” stated Devajit Saikia in an official announcement.
In a related development, BCCI sources revealed that during the IPL 2025 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, players and umpires will don black armbands to honor the victims of the attack on tourists in Pahalgam.
“In today’s match, players and umpires will wear black armbands. A minute of silence will be observed before the game begins, and there will be no cheerleaders or fireworks,” a BCCI source informed.
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the families of the victims outside the Police Control Room in Srinagar, paying tribute to those lost in the attack, which has left the Kashmir Valley and the entire nation in mourning. He laid a wreath in a solemn ceremony in Srinagar.
Family members, visibly distraught, were seen expressing their grief to the Home Minister, highlighting the profound impact of the tragedy on their lives.
In New Delhi, shortly after returning from Saudi Arabia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and other officials to discuss the implications of the recent terrorist incident in Pahalgam.
In a show of solidarity with the victims’ families and to denounce the attack, various political parties and traders’ unions in the region have called for a complete shutdown across the Kashmir valley.
