On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressed its gratitude to Ajit Agarkar, the outgoing chairman of the senior men's selection committee, for his service. The board highlighted his significant achievements, including three ICC trophies, during his time in office. In a post shared on X, the BCCI acknowledged Agarkar's role in the team's success, stating, "His tenure was filled with remarkable milestones for Indian cricket, including three ICC trophies, two Asia Cup victories, and consecutive gold medals at the Asian Games, culminating in a run to the 2023 ODI World Cup final. Gautam Gambhir Pays Tribute

Earlier on Wednesday, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir also honored Agarkar, commending his dedication to prioritizing the team. He remarked, "Dear Ajit Bhai, it has been a privilege to work alongside you. The three ICC trophies are a testament to your commitment: always putting the team first. History will surely recognize your contributions. Thank you for everything, and I wish you the best in your future pursuits!" Gambhir shared his sentiments on X.


Agarkar's Notable Achievements

Ajit Agarkar's official term as chairman of the BCCI's senior men's selection committee concluded on October 4. He assumed the role in July 2023 and chose not to extend his tenure. Under his leadership, India secured three ICC trophies: the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2024, the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, and another ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2026. Additionally, the Indian men's team clinched two Asia Cup titles and achieved back-to-back gold medals at the Asian Games, while also reaching the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup.


Search for New Chief Selector

The BCCI is currently seeking applications for a vacant position on the senior men's selection committee. Pragyan Ojha, a former left-arm spinner for India, is serving as the interim chief selector and led the selection meeting on Tuesday to finalize India's squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand.
