BCCI AGM Highlights: Key Decisions on Chief Selector and IPL Governance

BCCI's Recent AGM Outcomes

On Friday, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla announced that the board has received authorization for the chief selector's appointment, although a final decision will be made later. This statement came after the 95th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, where several agenda items were finalized, including the retention of Arun Singh Dhumal and M Khairul Jamal Majumdar in the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council.

"We have secured authorization regarding the selector. A decision will be made at a later date," Shukla informed reporters. Ajit Agarkar, who was appointed as the chairman of the men's senior selection committee in July 2023, is set to have his contract conclude next month.

New Associate Membership Approved

During the AGM, the board also granted associate membership to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Cricket Association. Shukla remarked, "Authorization has been secured for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Cricket Association's associate membership. These were the primary matters discussed; nothing else significant was on the agenda."

Future Plans and Financial Decisions

The General Body made several key decisions, including the adoption of the audited financial statement for the 2025-26 fiscal year, approval of the annual budget for 2026-27, and the appointment of auditors for the upcoming financial year.

Additionally, the General Body unanimously agreed to celebrate the 20th edition of the IPL in 2027 with grandeur. The BCCI has also begun preparations for its centenary celebrations in 2028, which will kick off in December 2027 and continue throughout 2028, commemorating 100 years of the governing body of Indian cricket.

Policy Enhancements and Support Initiatives

The AGM also saw the approval of an improved payment structure and reclassification of grades for umpires and match referees. A new Internal Committee was established under the BCCI’s Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policy, along with an updated Age Verification Policy.

Furthermore, discussions were held with state associations regarding initiatives to assist differently-abled cricketers, focusing on providing necessary facilities and resources to foster their development.
