In Thane district, Maharashtra, a bank employee has been apprehended for allegedly stealing gold valued at 27 lakhs that was pledged by customers. This information was confirmed by a police official on Sunday.
According to an officer from the Shivaji Nagar police station, Sachin Arun Kalan, a 29-year-old employee at a private bank in Ambernath East, was arrested on June 6 under the Indian Penal Code for criminal breach of trust and other charges.
The officer stated, 'In May, Kalan was handling gold loan cases as a customer service representative at the bank. During this period, he misappropriated gold jewelry worth 26.90 lakhs that had been pledged by clients seeking loans. A thorough investigation into the matter is currently underway.'
