Bangladesh's WTC Position as a Source of Motivation

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto of Bangladesh has expressed that his team's current standing in the World Test Championship (WTC) is more of an inspiration than a source of pressure as they prepare for their home Test series against the West Indies. Currently, Bangladesh ranks fourth in the WTC standings, with a chance to secure a top-two finish if they win their remaining four home Tests.

Upcoming Test Series Against West Indies

The two-Test series against the West Indies will kick off on Wednesday, with the second match set to begin on November 5. Shanto emphasized that the team's focus will be on maintaining their established processes and building on their recent performances rather than feeling overwhelmed by the situation.

Maintaining Focus on Established Processes

"For me, being in the top four is not pressure; it’s inspiring," Shanto remarked. He noted that the team’s preparations have centered around their recent Test performances, stating, "We aim to stick to our process without seeking extraordinary efforts from anyone. While this series is crucial, our goal remains to follow the successful methods that have brought us results."

Gaining Confidence from Recent Matches

Following a disappointing tour in the UAE, where they lost both ODI matches and drew a Test against Afghanistan, Bangladesh is looking to regain consistency. Despite a 2-0 home series victory over Pakistan, they faced setbacks, including a loss to Zimbabwe and a mixed performance against Australia. Shanto mentioned that the recent victory in Darwin has significantly boosted the players' confidence and their eagerness to excel in Test cricket.

"Winning the Darwin Test has naturally uplifted the players' spirits and belief in their abilities. Even prior to this win, there was a strong desire among the players to improve in this format, which has only intensified since then. I’ve noticed a growing excitement among the team about the upcoming Test matches," he added.
