Najmul Hossain Shanto, the captain of the Bangladesh Test team, has shared his positive outlook regarding the upcoming Test series in Australia, despite facing injury setbacks. This marks the first time in 23 years that Bangladesh will compete in a Test series on Australian soil. The team arrives with renewed confidence after a recent victory against Pakistan, which has propelled them to fourth place in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings. However, the absence of key players such as fast bowler Nahid Rana, who will miss the entire tour, along with batter Litton Das and pacer Shoriful Islam for the opening match in Darwin, poses a significant challenge. Nevertheless, Shanto remains hopeful about his team's performance.

Injuries Beyond Control, Says Shanto

"Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game. Players like Nahid Rana, Shoriful, and Litton Das are crucial to our squad. However, injuries are beyond anyone's control, and any player can face such issues at any moment," Shanto remarked before the team's departure for Australia. He emphasized that the players selected for the tour have substantial experience and that this is a valuable opportunity for them to showcase their skills. "As a captain, I cannot always rely on my top players being available. I trust those who have been given the chance to step up," he added.

Pace and Spin Attack Prepared for Australian Conditions

With Rana and Shoriful unavailable, Bangladesh's pace lineup will feature Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Khaled Ahmed, and Ebadot Hossain. The spin department will likely include Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam, both of whom are expected to play pivotal roles. Shanto expressed confidence in their ability to take 20 wickets in Australian conditions, stating, "The expectation remains the same, and I believe we can achieve that." He also highlighted the experience of the pace bowlers, noting that if they perform at their best, success is within reach.

Shanto is determined that his team will not be an easy opponent in the two-match series, aiming to earn respect from the reigning World Test Championship winners. "I feel privileged to play Test cricket in Australia against such a formidable team. We should have had more opportunities to play there over the past 23 years. If we had performed better, perhaps we would have had more matches," he reflected. He reiterated that the primary goal is to play competitively and earn respect, stating, "Winning is important, but what matters is how much challenge we can present to them."

Shanto mentioned that the team intends to maintain the style of Test cricket they have developed over recent years, believing they are in a strong position. "Conditions will differ, so we must adapt swiftly. There is no distinct plan; the Test team is in a good place, and our aim is to continue progressing," he concluded.
