Bangladesh Triumphs in T20 World Cup Match

In a remarkable performance, Bangladesh Women clinched a six-wicket win against the Netherlands, who were making their debut in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, during Match 5 held at Edgbaston on Sunday.


The standout player for Bangladesh was opener Juairiya Ferdous, who scored a quick-fire 50 runs off 33 balls, including seven boundaries and two sixes. Additionally, a significant partnership of 56 runs between Sharmin Akhter (37 runs) and Shorna Akter (18 runs) contributed to the team's successful chase.


Bowling Performance

On the bowling front, Marufa Akter took two wickets, while Fariha Trisna, Shanjida Akter Meghla, Rabeya Khan, and Ritu Moni each claimed one wicket, limiting the Netherlands to a total of 139 runs for 8 wickets in their 20 overs.


Chasing the Target

Bangladesh began their chase for the 140-run target with a solid opening partnership of 67 runs between Ferdous and Dilara Akter, who scored 26 runs off 23 balls. The Dutch bowlers made a brief comeback when Caroline de Lange took two wickets in the eighth over, dismissing Ferdous and captain Nigar Sultana.


Despite the setbacks, Ferdous had already laid a strong foundation for the chase. After Dilara's dismissal in the 11th over and Sobhana Mostary's run-out, Bangladesh found themselves at 85 for 4 in 12 overs. However, Sharmin and Shorna's unbeaten partnership of 56 runs ensured that Bangladesh reached their target, finishing at 141 for 4 in 19.1 overs.


Netherlands' Innings Overview

Earlier, the Netherlands, in their first-ever T20 World Cup match, won the toss and opted to bat. They faced immediate pressure from a disciplined Bangladesh bowling attack, which reduced them to 36 for 2 within five overs. Captain Babette de Leede played a crucial role, scoring 50 runs off 45 balls, but the middle-order struggled to cope with the pressure, leading to a final score of 139 for 8 in 20 overs.
