Bangladesh Welcomes Back Mosaddek Hossain for ODI Series Against Australia
Mosaddek Hossain Returns to the ODI Squad
The Bangladesh cricket selectors have reinstated middle-order batsman Mosaddek Hossain to the ODI team for the upcoming series against Australia, set to commence next week, as reported by a sports news outlet. The 30-year-old player is one of two additions to the squad that faced New Zealand in April, with Nurul Hasan also making a comeback. In contrast, Mahidul Islam and Afif Hossain have been dropped from the lineup for the initial two ODIs.
Outstanding Performance in the Dhaka Premier League
Mosaddek, who last played ODIs for Bangladesh in August 2022 and has participated in 43 matches in this format, earned his selection due to his remarkable performance in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL). Over five matches, he has scored a century and two half-centuries, boasting an impressive average of 89. Additionally, he has taken 11 wickets with his off-spin bowling at an average of 16.27. His consistent performances in the DPL over the last three seasons have been noteworthy.
Strengthening the Middle Order
The all-rounder is anticipated to reinforce the middle order, having proven himself as a dependable run-scorer in domestic cricket. Nurul's inclusion also bolsters Bangladesh's middle order, especially after Mahidul and Afif struggled to make significant contributions during the New Zealand series.
Chief Selector Discusses Tactical Adjustments
"We couldn't provide Afif and Mahidul with many chances. Their replacement is a tactical adjustment," stated chief selector Habibul Bashar, as quoted by a sports news outlet. "Mosaddek is capable of batting at No. 6. He is in excellent form and possesses a variety of skills. His performance in the DPL has been commendable. He also brings all-round capabilities to the team. His bowling is effective, which adds balance to our middle order. Nurul Hasan is stepping in for Mahidul, who is primarily a top-order batsman. Nurul typically bats around No. 6 or 7 as a wicketkeeper-batter, and we believe he is more adept in that role," he elaborated.
Bangladesh's Squad for the First Two ODIs Against Australia
The Bangladesh squad for the initial two ODIs against Australia includes: Mehidy Hasan Miraz (captain), Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tawhid Hridoy, Litton Das, Mosaddek Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Nahid Rana.
