Bangladesh's Response to Deportations

Mohammed Touhid Hossain, the foreign affairs representative of Bangladesh, announced that the country will issue a diplomatic note to India following the recent deportation of Bangladeshi nationals. He accused India of labeling these individuals as foreigners and forcibly returning them to Bangladesh.

Concerns Over Deportation Process

Hossain claimed that India is expelling these individuals without adhering to proper procedures. The Indian government has intensified its nationwide verification campaign against illegal immigrants, which gained traction after the launch of Operation Sindoor on May 7.

He mentioned that Bangladeshi officials are meticulously reviewing each case, and repatriation occurs only after verification. Hossain stated, 'India is engaging in cross-border push-ins,' acknowledging that such push-ins continue and are difficult to prevent.

Recent Detentions in Delhi

In a recent operation, Delhi Police apprehended 121 Bangladeshi nationals in Outer North Delhi for lacking valid documentation. DCP Outer North Nidhin Valsan reported that this was part of a broader initiative targeting undocumented foreign residents in the capital.

These individuals were identified from a larger list of 831 suspected illegal residents. 'Many have already been verified. Last week, we detained 121 individuals, who were then handed over to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) after confirming their illegal status and issuing deportation orders,' Valsan explained.

Living Conditions of Detainees

'Most of the detainees were residing in slum areas. We are conducting background checks to eliminate any potential criminal connections,' Valsan added. He noted that verification efforts are ongoing for the remaining individuals, with teams dispatched to West Bengal, as many detainees have ties to that region.

Additionally, five individuals have been interrogated by the Special Investigation Team. Recently, around 160 Bangladeshi nationals were deported from Delhi to Bangladesh via Hindon Airbase, according to sources.
