Bangladesh Takes Control in First Test Against Pakistan with Mehidy Hasan's Five-Wicket Haul
Bangladesh Leads by 34 Runs in First Test
On Sunday, Mehidy Hasan Miraz delivered an impressive performance, claiming five wickets as Bangladesh established a 34-run advantage over Pakistan in the opening Test at Shere Bangla National Stadium.
Despite facing rain interruptions, Bangladesh managed to bowl Pakistan out for 386 runs and reached 7 runs without loss in their second innings before bad light ended play early on Day 3.
Awais Shines on Debut with Century
Pakistan resumed the day at 179 for 1, with Abdullah Fazal and Azan Awais at the crease, aiming to surpass Bangladesh's first-innings score of 413.
Shortly after play began, Azan Awais celebrated his first Test century on debut. However, he could only add three more runs before being dismissed by Taskin Ahmed, breaking a 104-run partnership with Fazal for the second wicket.
Captain Shan Masood contributed minimally, falling to Taskin as well, leaving Pakistan at 226 for 3.
Mehidy Hasan's Dominance
Following Masood's dismissal, Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismantled Pakistan's middle and lower order. He dismissed Saud Shakeel for a duck and then took the wicket of the well-set Fazal, who scored 60 runs, leaving Pakistan at 230 for 5.
Salman Agha and Mohammad Rizwan formed a solid 119-run partnership before Mehidy struck again, removing Rizwan.
With the established batsmen gone, Pakistan's tail struggled against the spin, and Mehidy concluded with impressive figures of 5 for 102, while Taijul Islam supported well with 2 for 46, helping to bowl Pakistan out for 386.
Play Suspended Due to Bad Light
After Pakistan's innings concluded, Bangladesh's batsmen took to the field for their third innings, but play was halted after just 1.5 overs due to insufficient light.
With a 34-run lead and ten wickets remaining, Bangladesh aims to bat deep into Day 4, setting a target exceeding 250 runs.
