Bangladesh's Strong Start in the Test Series

Bangladesh showcased an impressive display in the first Test match against Australia, highlighted by Tanzid Hasan Tamim's remarkable maiden century. The match is taking place at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin, where the visitors concluded Day 2 in a strong position.

After successfully bowling Australia out for 198 runs on the first day, Bangladesh capitalized on the favorable batting conditions. Tanzid and Mominul Haque resumed their innings, forming a solid partnership of 102 runs for the second wicket before Mominul was dismissed for 49 by Josh Hazlewood.

Tanzid's Historic Maiden Century

Tanzid achieved his maiden Test century, marking a significant milestone as the first Bangladeshi player to score a Test hundred in Australia. The 25-year-old reached 101 runs off 188 balls, hitting eight fours and a six before being dismissed by Nathan Lyon.

At the end of Day 2, Bangladesh led by 153 runs, finishing the day at 351/6. This century also ended a long wait for a Bangladeshi player to score a Test hundred away from home, the last being Mahmudul Hasan Joy's 137 against South Africa in 2022.

Tanzid's achievement is only the second century by a Bangladeshi batter against Australia in Test matches, with Shahriar Nafees being the first to score 138 in 2006.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto further solidified Bangladesh's lead with a commendable 84 runs, while Mushfiqur Rahim added 36. Their dismissals provided Australia with some respite as the home team's pace attack began to take wickets with the new ball.

In his 15 Test matches, Hasan has recorded three five-wicket hauls, the second-most by a Bangladeshi pacer, trailing only Shahadat Hossain. His ability to perform in challenging away conditions has established him as a formidable bowler.

Australia struggled to maintain momentum after a brief 45-run partnership between Travis Head and Jake Weatherald, collapsing to 74/4. Although Steve Smith scored 71 runs, Hasan's relentless bowling proved too much for the Australian side.

Taskin Ahmed also reached a significant milestone, becoming the sixth bowler in Bangladesh's cricket history to claim 300 international wickets, with figures of 2/55. He has achieved this in 204 matches, boasting an impressive record that includes 13 four-wicket hauls and three five-wicket hauls.
