Bangladesh Mourns the Loss of Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia: State Mourning Declared
Nation in Mourning for Khaleda Zia
In Dhaka, the funeral of Khaleda Zia is scheduled for Wednesday, following the announcement of a three-day state mourning period and a general holiday by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday. This decision comes in light of the former Prime Minister's passing.
During a televised message to the nation, Yunus called for the public to maintain decorum and order during the funeral services and throughout the mourning period.
He stated, “In honor of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, I declare three days of state mourning and a general holiday tomorrow coinciding with her Namaz-e-Janaza (funeral prayers).”
Khaleda Zia, who led the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and served as Prime Minister three times, passed away in Dhaka at the age of 80 after battling a long illness.
Expressing his condolences, Yunus acknowledged the collective grief of the nation, urging citizens to exhibit patience during this time and to assist those involved in the funeral arrangements, including her Namaz-e-Janaza.
