Bangladesh Government Considers Lifting IPL Broadcast Ban
Bangladesh's Inquiry on IPL Broadcast
The Ministry of Information in Bangladesh has reached out to the Ministry of Sports to gather insights on the possibility of resuming live broadcasts of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Reason Behind the Initial Ban
Previously, the interim government of Bangladesh imposed a ban on IPL broadcasts as a reaction to the Kolkata Knight Riders' refusal to allow Bangladeshi cricketer Mustafizur Rahman to participate. On January 5, the interim government issued a directive to halt all live broadcasts of the IPL and related events in the country until further notice.
New Government's Review of the Ban
Following the general elections in Bangladesh, a new democratic government took office on February 12. After assuming power, the Ministry of Information sent a letter to the Ministry of Sports to assess whether the IPL broadcast ban could be lifted.
As of now, the Ministry of Information has not yet received feedback from the Ministry of Sports. A decision regarding the ban will be made once their opinion is obtained.
Upcoming IPL 2026 Matches
The IPL 2026 season is scheduled to commence on March 28, featuring the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), facing off against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Additionally, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will kick off their season against the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians, at the renowned Wankhede Stadium on March 29.
