Bangladesh Takes Charge on Day 1

On Friday, Bangladesh asserted their dominance on the first day of the inaugural Test match against Pakistan at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, concluding the day with an impressive score of 301 for 4. Despite an early loss of wickets, the home team bounced back, thanks to a stellar century from Najmul Hossain Shanto (101) and a resilient 91 from Mominul Haque, which frustrated the Pakistani bowlers.

Pakistan's Early Success

After winning the toss, Pakistan's captain opted to bowl first. The pace duo of Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali quickly found their rhythm. Afridi dismissed Mahmudul Hasan Joy (8) in the seventh over, while Hasan Ali took out Shadman Islam (13), leaving Bangladesh struggling at 31 for 2 within just 10.1 overs.

Partnership Between Shanto and Mominul

However, the early breakthroughs proved to be the high point for the visitors. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque formed a formidable partnership, accumulating 170 runs for the third wicket. Shanto was particularly aggressive, hitting 12 boundaries and two sixes, while Mominul played a more measured innings, guiding the team through the middle overs.

Late Breakthroughs for Pakistan

Pakistan finally made a breakthrough in the 53rd over when Mohammad Abbas trapped Shanto LBW shortly after he reached his century. At that point, Bangladesh's score stood at 201/3.

Mominul was on the verge of his own century but fell just short, scoring 91 before being dismissed by Noman Ali in the 74th over, following a 75-run partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim.

Bangladesh Ends Day 1 Strong

After the fall of the fourth wicket, Litton Das (8*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (48*) contributed an additional 25 runs, allowing Bangladesh to finish Day 1 at 301/4 after 85 overs. Pakistan's bowlers struggled through the innings, falling short of the full 90 overs due to a slow over rate, with Abbas being the standout performer (1/51), conceding less than 3 runs per over. As Day 2 approaches, Bangladesh aims to surpass 400 runs, while Pakistan seeks early wickets with the new ball to regain momentum in the match.
