Bangladesh Achieves Historic Test Series Sweep Against Pakistan
Bangladesh Secures 2-0 Test Series Victory
On Wednesday, Bangladesh celebrated a remarkable achievement by completing a 2-0 Test series whitewash against Pakistan, winning the second Test by 78 runs at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. This victory marks Bangladesh's first clean sweep in a Test series against Pakistan on home soil and their second overall, following a similar 2-0 win in Pakistan in 2024.
Taijul Islam's Match-Winning Performance
Facing a daunting target of 437 runs in the fourth innings, Pakistan showed determination but ultimately fell short, being bowled out for 358. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam played a pivotal role in the final day's play, dismantling the Pakistani batting order with impressive bowling figures of 6 wickets for 120 runs in 34.2 overs.
First Innings Highlights
Choosing to bowl first, Pakistan allowed Bangladesh to score 278 runs in their first innings, largely thanks to a brilliant 126 from wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das. In reply, Pakistan struggled and was dismissed for 232, despite a quick 68 runs from Babar Azam. Bangladesh's Nahid Rana and Taijul Islam each took three wickets, giving Bangladesh a crucial 46-run lead.
Bangladesh Dominates Third Innings
In their second innings, Bangladesh put on a commanding performance, scoring 390 runs. Veteran player Mushfiqur Rahim led the charge with a stellar 137 runs off 233 balls, while Litton Das contributed a solid 69, setting Pakistan a formidable target of 437 runs.
Pakistan's Resilient Chase
Pakistan's chase featured a determined 92-run partnership for the sixth wicket between captain Shan Masood (71) and Babar Azam (47), followed by a 134-run stand between Agha and Mohammad Rizwan (94). Despite their efforts, Taijul Islam's spin bowling proved too strong, as he took crucial wickets, including those of Azam and Masood, sealing the match with a six-wicket haul.
A Historic Series for Bangladesh
Following their earlier 104-run victory in the first Test in Dhaka, this 78-run win in Sylhet marks a significant milestone for Najmul Hossain Shanto's team, achieving a historic Test series sweep against Pakistan.
