Ayush Shetty Exits Orleans Open; Indian Players Continue to Compete
Ayush Shetty Eliminated
Indian badminton player Ayush Shetty faced elimination from the Orleans Open tournament after losing in the quarterfinals on Friday.
The 20-year-old was defeated in two straight games by Yudai Okimoto, with scores of 18-21 and 9-21, according to reports. Shetty, who won the US Open in 2025, is still in search of his first title this year, having not advanced past the second round in previous tournaments, including a second-round finish at the Malaysian Open.
Indian Contenders Still in the Mix
Despite Shetty's exit, India still has a chance with three quarterfinal matches scheduled.
Women's Singles
In the women's singles category, two Indian players, Isharani Baruah and Malvika Bansod, will compete against each other. Bansod has yet to advance past the round of 16 this year, which was her best performance during the Indian Open held in Delhi in January.
Additionally, Tanvi Sharma will face Japan's Natsuki Nidaira in another quarterfinal match, aiming for her first quarterfinal appearance of the 2026 season after experiencing four consecutive first-round exits.
Men's Doubles
In men's doubles, the duo of Hariharan Amasakarunan and MR Arjun will challenge Indonesia's Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana.
Path to the Quarterfinals
Bansod reached the quarterfinals by defeating Malaysia's Wong Ling Ching with scores of 24-22 and 13-21. Tanvi, a silver medalist at the World Junior Championships, had a significant victory over second seed Supanida Katethong from Thailand on the first day, leading to an all-Indian round of 16 match.
She triumphed over fellow rising star Anmol Kharb in straight games, winning 21-14 and 21-17 to advance to the quarterfinals.
In men's doubles, Hariharan and Arjun secured their spot in the quarterfinals with a hard-fought win against Scotland's Alexander Dunn and Adam Pringle, edging the first game 26-24 and dominating the second 21-14, completing the match in just 35 minutes.
