Ayush Shetty's Journey Ends in Pre-Quarterfinals

Ayush Shetty's remarkable run at the BWF World Championships concluded in the pre-quarterfinals, where he faced a 19-21, 11-21 defeat against Indonesia's Alwi Farhan. The match took place at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, where Ayush battled valiantly in front of a supportive home crowd, as reported by ESPN.

After a stunning victory over World No. 1 Shi Yuqi in the previous round, Ayush started strong but struggled to maintain his momentum against Alwi's swift play. He nearly clinched the first game after recovering from a 14-18 deficit to lead 19-18, but ultimately lost the game as Alwi scored three consecutive points to win 21-19.

The second game was dominated by Alwi, who consistently pressured Ayush with aggressive rallies. Targeting Ayush's right hip with powerful smashes and capitalizing on his short lifts, Alwi established a significant lead. He controlled the pace of the game, ultimately winning the second game 21-11 and securing his spot in the quarterfinals.

Mixed Results for India at the Championships

With Ayush's defeat, India's men's singles campaign at the World Championships came to an end. Earlier, Lakshya Sen, the country's top men's singles player, was eliminated after a loss to World No. 92 Garret Tan from the USA.

Ayush's exit marked India's second loss of the day, as the mixed doubles team of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto also fell short, losing 16-21, 5-21 to China's Guo Xinwa and Chen Fanghui in the Round of 16.

Positive News for Women's Doubles

On a brighter note, the women's doubles team of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand advanced to the quarterfinals with a convincing 21-16, 21-12 victory over Japan's seventh-seeded pair, Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi.

Ranked World No. 39, the Indian duo showcased a strong performance, especially following Treesa's recovery from injury, bringing them one step closer to a potential medal at the World Championships.

Additionally, PV Sindhu was set to compete against China's Wang Zhiyi in her Round of 16 match, while the men's doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty was scheduled to face Malaysia's Yap Roy King and Junaidi Arif later on Thursday.
