Ayodhya Administration Prohibits Non-Vegetarian Food Delivery Near Ram Temple

In a recent move, the Ayodhya administration has prohibited the delivery of non-vegetarian food within a 15-kilometer radius of the Ram temple. This decision follows complaints about food apps violating existing regulations in the sacred area known as the 'panchkosi parikrama.' The ban extends to hotels and homestays serving non-vegetarian meals and alcohol. The assistant food commissioner emphasized the importance of compliance and monitoring. This action is part of ongoing efforts to maintain the sanctity of the region, especially following the temple's inauguration in January 2024.

New Restrictions on Food Delivery in Ayodhya

The local government in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, has implemented a ban on the delivery of non-vegetarian food within a 15-kilometer radius of the Ram temple, as reported by a local news outlet.

This decision was made in response to complaints regarding food delivery services providing non-vegetarian options in areas designated as the 'panchkosi parikrama,' a sacred 15-km circumambulation route surrounding Ayodhya, according to unnamed officials.

Additionally, the administration has cautioned hotels and homestays against serving non-vegetarian meals and alcoholic beverages to their patrons.

Manik Chandra Singh, the assistant food commissioner in Ayodhya, confirmed that there had been reports of online food delivery services violating the existing regulations.

This issue persists despite a prohibition established in May 2025, which banned the sale of meat and alcohol along the 14-km Ram path connecting Ayodhya and Faizabad.

Singh noted that the ban has now been expanded to include the delivery of non-vegetarian food through online platforms.

He stated that all hotels, vendors, and delivery services have been notified of this new order, emphasizing that ongoing monitoring will be conducted to ensure adherence.

The Babri Masjid, located in Ayodhya, was demolished in December 1992 by Hindutva activists who claimed it was built on the birthplace of Lord Ram. In January 2024, the Ram temple was inaugurated at this site in a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
