Ayodhya Administration Imposes Ban on Meat Deliveries Near Ram Temple
Restrictions on Meat Deliveries in Ayodhya
On Friday, the Ayodhya administration announced a ban on the delivery of meat products within a 15-kilometer radius of the Ram Temple. This decision was made following numerous complaints regarding the supply of non-vegetarian food by online delivery platforms in areas covered under the 'Panchkosi Parikrama'. Officials noted that some hotels and homestays were serving meat dishes and alcoholic beverages to guests, prompting them to issue strict warnings to these establishments to refrain from such practices.
Food Commissioner Addresses the Issue
Manik Chandra Singh, the food commissioner of Ayodhya, stated that serving meat in hotels and restaurants within the temple vicinity is now prohibited. Despite this, online deliveries were still occurring through various platforms. Singh emphasized the need to ensure that meat is neither served nor delivered in these areas, and that delivery platforms associated with hotels must adhere strictly to these regulations. Failure to comply will result in severe action against violators.
Previous Restrictions and Local Concerns
In May 2025, the Ayodhya Municipal Corporation had decided to ban the sale of alcohol and meat along the 14-kilometer Ram Path connecting Ayodhya and Faizabad. However, local residents have reported that over two dozen shops along this route continue to sell alcohol, indicating a lack of enforcement of the ban. A municipal officer responded to these concerns by stating that while meat shops along the Ram Path, including those in Faizabad, have been removed, action against liquor stores requires permission from the district administration.
