Purthi (Chamba): On July 15, 2025, a significant awareness lecture focusing on drug de-addiction took place at Shaheed Deen Nath Government Senior Secondary School in Purthi. This event was part of a larger initiative aimed at educating the community about the dangers of substance abuse. The session was led by Head Constable Pankaj Kumar (No. 77) from the local police post.

During his compelling presentation, Head Constable Kumar discussed the detrimental effects of drug use, highlighting various substances including alcohol, tobacco, cannabis (charas/ganja), opium, and synthetic drugs like heroin, often referred to as 'chitta'.

Kumar pointed out that addiction not only harms an individual's physical health but also has severe repercussions on mental health, family dynamics, and social reputation.

He expressed alarm over the increasing prevalence of heroin cases in the state, particularly among the youth, including students in schools and colleges. He encouraged students to avoid intoxicants, choose their companions wisely, make productive use of their time, and cultivate a positive mindset.

Describing addiction as a societal issue, he stressed the need for collective awareness and vigilance to combat it. He also urged students to be observant of any signs of substance misuse in their environment and to report any suspicious behavior to the authorities.

In addition to discussing narcotics, Head Constable Kumar addressed the rising threat of cybercrime and online fraud, providing students with essential tips on how to safeguard themselves in the digital realm.

At the end of the session, both students and teachers pledged to refrain from drug use and to work towards fostering a drug-free community. The event was praised for its informative and engaging nature, leaving a profound impact on the attendees.

Such initiatives are crucial for enhancing preventive measures in schools and encouraging responsible citizenship among the youth, especially in remote and tribal areas of Himachal Pradesh like Purthi.
