Auto-Rickshaw Driver Attacked Over Water Dispute in Maharashtra

In Maharashtra's Palghar district, a dispute over accessing water from a public tap led to an attack on a 43-year-old auto-rickshaw driver, leaving him severely injured. This incident was reported by the police on Monday.

The altercation took place on Friday morning in the Alkapuri area of Nala Sopara. According to an officer from the Achole police station, the local municipal body had installed a public tap in front of the victim's home to cater to the daily needs of residents, providing water every other day from 4 AM to 8 AM.

Details of the Attack

On Friday, two couples from the neighborhood began drawing water from the public tap using an electric motor. The victim objected, stating that their actions would prevent other local residents from accessing water.

The officer reported that the victim's objection angered the couples, who then allegedly attacked him with bricks and iron rods typically used in road construction.

As a result of the assault, the victim sustained serious injuries. Neighbors rushed him to the hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Legal Action

The police have registered a case against four individuals under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
