Detention of Officials After Stampede Incident

In connection with the stampede that occurred outside Chinnaswamy Stadium, officials from the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the event management company, DNA Entertainment Private Limited, have been taken into custody.

According to police sources, this information was disclosed on Friday. The stampede took place on Wednesday when a large crowd of cricket fans gathered to celebrate RCB's victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) final, resulting in the tragic deaths of 11 individuals and injuries to over 56 others.

The detentions were made as part of a joint operation by the crime branch and Bengaluru police. Sources indicated that Nikhil Sosale, the head of marketing and revenue for RCB, along with Sunil Mathew and Kiran Kumar from DNA Entertainment, are currently being interrogated.

Further actions will be determined following the questioning. Some of the detained individuals were reportedly apprehended at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), located on the outskirts of the city.

This action followed the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against RCB, DNA, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) on Thursday. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had instructed the state's Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police to ensure the immediate arrest of RCB and DNA event managers, as well as KSCA representatives, due to apparent negligence.
