Auqib Nabi's Dedication and Potential Shine in IPL 2026
Praise for Nabi's Discipline and Work Ethic
The bowling coach of Delhi Capitals, Munaf Patel, has expressed admiration for Auqib Nabi, a young pacer from Jammu and Kashmir, commending his discipline and strong work ethic during his inaugural season in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
In a pre-match press briefing before the Delhi Capitals faced off against the Gujarat Titans, Patel noted Nabi's impressive focus and maturity. He remarked, "Nabi is a disciplined and patient bowler with a commendable work ethic. Even though this is his first IPL season, he remains unfazed by the surrounding glamour. He is always keen to bowl extra in practice; at times, we have to tell him to take a break."
Transitioning from Domestic Cricket to IPL
Patel highlighted the significant challenges that come with moving from domestic cricket to the IPL, where the competition is notably tougher. He stated, "The gap between domestic cricket and the IPL is substantial; even well-delivered balls can be hit for runs. Nabi is striving to evolve into a well-rounded player."
He also acknowledged Nabi's remarkable domestic performance, especially during the recent Ranji Trophy season for Jammu and Kashmir. "Achieving success in the Ranji season with J&K is a significant milestone. The IPL presents a different set of challenges. We are making sure he is prepared, as not every bowler will participate in every match," Patel explained.
Nabi's Role as an Impact Player
Patel suggested that Nabi might be utilized as an impact player when the situation demands it. "We are ensuring he is ready for whenever the opportunity arises," he added.
Delhi Capitals' Position in IPL 2026
Currently, the Delhi Capitals have secured victories in both of their matches, placing them fourth on the IPL 2026 points table with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +1.170.
