Incident Overview
In a shocking incident in the Gida police area of Gorakhpur district, a man allegedly attempted to murder his former girlfriend, who is now married, by slitting her throat. The suspect was apprehended by the police following an encounter, as confirmed by a police official on Friday.
Details of the Attack
According to police reports, the accused, identified as Bhola alias Arun, entered the victim's home in the village of Tenua late Thursday night and launched an attack on her.
Police Encounter
On Friday morning, when police attempted to stop Arun near Mukti Dham while he was heading towards Gida, he allegedly opened fire at them. In response, the police, led by Piprauli station in-charge Santosh Singh, returned fire, injuring Arun in his right leg before taking him into custody. Authorities recovered a country-made pistol, a spent cartridge, and a live round from his possession.
Background of the Victim and Accused
Sources indicate that the victim got married a year ago, around the same time as the accused. They had previously been in a romantic relationship. However, due to Arun's persistent attachment to his former girlfriend, tensions arose in his marriage, leading his wife to leave him and return to her parental home.
Aftermath of the Incident
It has been reported that the victim also returned to her parental home from her in-laws during this period. Following a heated argument between the two, the brutal attack occurred. Jitendra Srivastava, the Additional Superintendent of Police for the northern region, confirmed the arrest and stated that the incident appears to stem from a failed relationship and mutual disputes. He added that a thorough investigation into the matter is underway, and the seriously injured woman is receiving treatment at a medical college.
