Atishi Urges Delhi CM to Address Water Crisis Amid Rising Concerns

Opposition Leader Seeks Meeting with Delhi Chief Minister

Atishi, the leader of the opposition in the Delhi Assembly, has reached out to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, requesting a meeting to discuss critical water issues affecting the national capital. In her letter to the CM, Atishi expressed hope that Gupta would engage in a dialogue about this pressing concern for the residents of Delhi. She highlighted the severe water crisis currently plaguing the city, noting that even though it is only May, the intense heat has yet to arrive, and citizens are already facing significant water shortages.

Residents Struggling with Water Shortages

Atishi pointed out that the entire city is grappling with water scarcity. Scenes of women waiting in line for water tankers, children holding buckets, and families purchasing large bottles of water from markets are becoming increasingly common in Delhi. She questioned whether this was the kind of city promised to its residents. Furthermore, the opposition leader criticized the BJP government under CM Gupta for failing to ensure basic water supply, which often gets disrupted for up to 24 hours.

Government's Silence on Water Supply Issues

Atishi remarked that residents are receiving constant notifications about reductions in water supply on their phones. Despite this, the government and its ministers remain silent, with no concrete plans or relief efforts in sight. It is unfortunate that the BJP's four-engine government—comprising the central government, the Lieutenant Governor, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, and now the Chief Minister—has left the people of Delhi helpless regarding such a fundamental necessity as water. She raised concerns about what will happen as temperatures rise further in the coming months, questioning whether the government intends to leave residents reliant on divine intervention for drinking water.
