Atiqa Mir Shines Bright at FIA Karting World Cup Debut
Atiqa Mir's Impressive World Cup Debut
Indian racing sensation Atiqa Mir made a remarkable impression during her debut at the FIA Karting World Cup, achieving a top-five finish in the heats and recording the fastest time in one of the practice sessions, as stated in a press release. This event marked Atiqa's first significant challenge since joining the Kart Republic Factory Race Team, led by the experienced Dino Chiesa, who has been instrumental in the careers of numerous Formula 1 stars, including the legendary Lewis Hamilton.
Competitive Performance and Challenges Faced
Competing against a field of 117 junior drivers, Atiqa stood out as the top-performing female racer. The 11-year-old kicked off the week by clocking the fastest time in the third practice session and secured a second-place finish in the final practice. However, during qualifying, she faced traffic issues that hindered her performance, resulting in a 12th place finish in her group and 48th overall. Despite this setback, she bounced back during the heat races.
In the heat races, Atiqa, who is the first Indian supported by the Formula 1 Academy, achieved finishes of P7, P9, and P5, along with two Fastest Laps. In the crucial super heats, she finished P11. In the final race, she showcased her skills by moving up to P16, overtaking eight karts along the way.
Atiqa's Thoughts on Her Performance
Reflecting on her experience, Atiqa remarked, "One small mistake in qualifying cost me dearly. With such a large grid of 117 drivers, qualifying well is crucial, but I struggled with slower drivers and had to navigate around them during my flying lap."
"I was only two tenths off the pole position, which highlights the competitiveness of this grid. I made the most of my opportunities and enjoyed collaborating with the Kart Republic team. I also want to express my gratitude to Raise, JK Tyre, and JM Group for their unwavering support," she concluded.
