Assam's Chief Minister Promises Development and Employment Opportunities

Commitment to Assam's Growth

On Tuesday, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, emphasized that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aims to elevate Assam to a position where it plays a significant role in national development, rather than remaining a dependent state. During a press conference, Sarma stated that the BJP plans to implement a Uniform Civil Code in Assam without infringing on the rights of the tribal and ethnic communities. Additionally, the government intends to introduce stringent laws against love jihad and land jihad.

Implementation of Key Laws

Sarma mentioned that upon returning to power, the government would enforce the Uniform Civil Code within three months while safeguarding the rights of Assam's tribal and ethnic groups. He also announced plans to enforce the Illegal Immigrants Deportation Act of 1950, which grants the authority to legally expel illegal immigrants within 24 hours.

Empowering Local Authorities

The Chief Minister stated that district commissioners in Assam would be empowered to implement the Illegal Immigrants Deportation Act, allowing district collectors or magistrates to expel any foreigner within a day. He reiterated the government's commitment to legally combat illegal encroachments on land, ensuring that every inch of Assam's territory is protected from Bangladeshi infiltrators.

Focus on Employment and Welfare

Discussing employment, Sarma highlighted the goal of creating at least 200,000 job opportunities for the youth. The government also aims to increase monthly allowances for women, provide shelter for the underprivileged, and raise daily wages for tea garden workers. He affirmed the commitment to create 200,000 government jobs, raise women's monthly allowances from ₹1,500 to ₹3,000, and gradually build homes for the 1.5 million poorest individuals. Furthermore, the government plans to grant land rights to tea garden workers and enhance their daily wages.
