Historic Participation at the World Economic Forum

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made history by becoming the first Chief Minister of Assam to attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Switzerland. His participation from January 19 to 23, 2026, marks a significant achievement in strengthening Assam's position on a global economic and policy-making platform. Upon his arrival, he received a warm welcome from members of the Indian diaspora at Zurich Airport, followed by a formal reception by Ambassador Mridul Kumar, who congratulated him on his arrival ahead of the summit.


Meetings with Global Leaders

During his visit, Chief Minister Sarma engaged with several prominent global and national leaders, including Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, among others gathered in Davos. He also had a cordial meeting with Singapore's President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.


Key Discussions at the Forum

At the World Economic Forum, Sarma will participate in high-level discussions focusing on future workforce, global partnerships, tourism potential, healthcare transformation, and sustainable development. These discussions aim to firmly establish Assam in the global landscape of development, innovation, and opportunities.
