Upcoming Swearing-In Ceremony for Assam's NDA Government

Guwahati: Following a significant win in the Assembly elections, the BJP-led NDA government in Assam is anticipated to take the oath of office for a third consecutive term on May 12, according to sources on Wednesday.

The NDA Legislature Party is scheduled to convene at 10 a.m. on May 10 in Guwahati, where members are expected to officially select their leader.

All victorious NDA candidates have been instructed to arrive in Guwahati by May 9 in preparation for this pivotal meeting and the subsequent formation of the government.

Prominent BJP figures, including former national president J.P. Nadda and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, are also expected to be in Assam on May 9 for discussions and related activities.

It is anticipated that the NDA will present its claim to form the new government to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on the evening of May 10, following the Legislature Party meeting.

The BJP-led coalition achieved a solid majority in the recent Assam Assembly elections, allowing incumbent Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to secure another term in office.

Earlier, Chief Minister Sarma indicated that the new BJP-led government would be formed and sworn in after May 11, once all constitutional and organizational procedures are completed.

After resigning to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Sarma informed reporters that the Election Commission had officially announced the Assembly election results, prompting him to resign along with his Council of Ministers in accordance with democratic norms.

"The Election Commission has officially declared the results and submitted the notification to the Governor. Immediately after that, I submitted my resignation as Chief Minister and also recommended dissolution of the present Assam Legislative Assembly," Sarma stated.

He further mentioned that the Governor accepted both recommendations and instructed the outgoing ministry to function as a caretaker government until the new administration is in place.

"We will continue as a caretaker government during this transition period until the new government is formed," he added.
