Assam's Binita Chetry Shines as Second Runner-Up on Britain's Got Talent

On June 1, Guwahati witnessed a proud moment as nine-year-old Binita Chetry from Assam achieved the title of second runner-up in the renowned reality show 'Britain's Got Talent'. Her journey from a small village in Karbi Anglong to an international stage is truly inspiring.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his congratulations, stating that Binita has made everyone proud with her remarkable achievement. He shared his sentiments on social media, saying, "Dancing her way to glory. Many congratulations to our very own #BinitaChetry on securing the 3rd spot at #BGTFinal… Her performances have mesmerised audiences from the Brahmaputra to the Thames and made us all proud."
In a heartfelt video shared on BGT's official social media, Binita thanked her supporters, especially the viewers from the UK, for their votes and encouragement. She acknowledged the support from fans in India, Nepal, Bhutan, and other Asian nations, which fueled her determination on this global platform.
Binita expressed her desire to personally thank Chief Minister Sarma for his unwavering support and blessings, hoping to meet him soon.
She also recognized the financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh provided by Tuliram Ronghang, the Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), which helped her prepare for the finale, along with support from local MLA and deputy speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Numal Momin.
Hailing from Talbalijan village near Bokajan, Binita's father, Amar Chetry, operates a small broiler chicken farm and is actively engaged in community service. Acknowledging her talent, he arranged for her dance training first in Guwahati and later in Jaipur, under the mentorship of her aunt Amrita Devi and choreographer Hardik Rawat, as noted by Nanda Kirati Dewan, coordinator of the BGT Binita Chetry Support Group.
Throughout her journey on BGT, Binita captivated judges and audiences alike with her intricate dance routines, which featured challenging moves like backflips.
In the finale held on Saturday night, Binita secured the second runner-up position, making her the first contestant from India to reach this stage of the competition. The title was claimed by British magician Harry Moulding, while the LED dance group 'The Blackouts' took second place.
