Assam Surpasses 1.5 Million Government Jobs, Chief Minister Announces New Appointments

Major Job Milestone Achieved in Assam

On Saturday, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state has successfully crossed the milestone of 1.5 million government jobs, fulfilling a promise made during the 2021 assembly elections. In a social media post, he mentioned his upcoming visit to Sarusajai, where he will distribute appointment letters to over 6,000 candidates selected for Grade III positions under the ADRE recruitment process. Sarma emphasized that more job opportunities will be provided in the future.

Recent Appointments and Recruitment Process

This announcement follows the distribution of appointment letters to 4,369 candidates selected for Grade IV positions through the Assam Direct Recruitment Examination. With this latest round of appointments, the total number of government jobs created during the current administration has reached 150,033, surpassing the initial target of 100,000. While addressing an event at the Jyoti-Bishnu International Cultural Center, the Chief Minister highlighted the complexities of the recruitment process and the challenges of ensuring transparency.

Improvements in Recruitment System

Sarma pointed out that previously, overlapping departmental examinations led to allegations of corruption and legal disputes, resulting in staff shortages across various departments. To address these issues, the government has implemented a unified recruitment system by establishing separate commissions for Grade III and Grade IV positions and enacting new laws. He noted that to maintain fairness, examinations were conducted simultaneously across 28 districts, with internet services suspended, involving over 912,000 candidates. The reliability of this process is underscored by the absence of any legal challenges.

Call for Dedicated Service

Encouraging the newly appointed candidates to serve with dedication, Sarma urged them to ensure timely resolution of issues faced by citizens visiting government offices. He also announced that the 'Swagat Satirth' portal will reopen on February 1 to facilitate mutual transfers among employees. Emphasizing merit-based governance, the Chief Minister stated that transparent recruitment has restored faith among the youth of Assam, while the government continues to promote entrepreneurship to generate employment in the state.
