Investigation into Passport Fraud Claims
Following the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) by Riniki Bhuyan, the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, against Congress leader Pawan Khera for alleged passport fraud, Assam police visited Khera's residence in Delhi on Tuesday. The local police were assisting the Assam police at the residence located in the Nizamuddin area. Chief Minister Sarma has claimed that Khera has fled to Hyderabad.
Sarma stated, "He escaped from Guwahati yesterday. I learned through the media that the police went to his residence in Delhi, but he has already fled to Hyderabad. The law will take its course." A significant political controversy erupted on Sunday between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) when the Congress held two sensational press conferences accusing Sarma's wife.
The Congress party conducted press conferences in both Delhi and Guwahati, where Pawan Khera, head of the party's media department, and Gaurav Gogoi, head of the Assam unit, alleged that Sarma's wife possesses passports from the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Antigua and Barbuda. They also claimed that she owns properties in Dubai (UAE) and has a company in Wyoming (USA). On Monday, Sarma accused the Congress of using documents from a social media group linked to Pakistan to falsely create allegations regarding his wife's purported passports from three different countries.
