Guwahati, Sept 20: According to Jeet Adani, Director of the Adani Group, Assam is on track to become a significant energy hub for India, potentially earning the title of the “Battery of India” in the near future.

During the foundation stone-laying event for Adani Power’s 3,200-MW thermal power project in Chapar, Dhubri, he noted the impressive transformation of Assam in recent years, positioning it as a prime destination for investment in India.

“I firmly believe that in the years ahead, Assam will not only meet its own energy requirements but will also serve as a crucial energy provider for the entire nation. Assam has the potential to be recognized as the ‘Battery of India’,” Jeet Adani remarked.

Reflecting on the Adani Group's experience in Assam, he mentioned that the company initially aimed to support the state's development but soon recognized vast opportunities across various sectors. He commended Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his governance approach, which emphasizes quick execution and effective project implementation.

“At last year’s Rising Northeast Global Investors Summit, our Group Chairman, Gautam Adani, announced an investment plan of up to Rs 1 lakh crore in the Northeast over the next decade. I am proud to report that we are already investing nearly Rs 80,000 crore in Assam,” he stated.

He highlighted that job creation and local engagement are key components of the Group’s investment strategy. The forthcoming Rs 48,000-crore thermal power project, with a capacity of 3,200 MW, is anticipated to be the largest power generation facility in the Northeast.

“We have conducted several job fairs, resulting in the hiring of 4,500 local youths from Assam. The Adani Group’s initiatives in the state are expected to create approximately 40,000 direct and indirect job opportunities,” Jeet Adani added.

“This is merely the beginning. As we expand our operations in Assam, the prospects for local youth will also increase. Our aim is to ensure that more local talent actively participates in this growth journey,” he concluded.

Previously, Adani Power announced that the 3,200-MW greenfield ultra-supercritical power plant would require an investment of around Rs 48,000 crore. The project is projected to create direct and indirect employment for approximately 20,000 to 25,000 individuals during the construction phase and support around 3,500 jobs once it becomes operational.
