Strategic Planning for BTC Elections

Guwahati, July 14:   As the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections approach in September, Assam’s Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah has revealed plans for a significant strategy meeting on July 17 to outline the party's electoral approach.

During an inauguration event at the Fancy Bazar Botanical Garden on Monday, Minister Mallabaruah mentioned that numerous party members are actively engaging with the public to gather insights.

“After we compile the feedback from our workers, we will devise our strategy during the meeting on July 17. Every action we take will align with the people's expectations,” Mallabaruah stated.

He emphasized that the forthcoming BTC elections will be conducted in a peaceful and harmonious manner, with the party adhering to the guidance of its leaders and the aspirations of the public.

Shifting focus to the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, the minister expressed confidence in the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition.

“Our collaboration with the BJP, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) remains robust and unwavering. We stand united,” he affirmed.

In a critique of the Opposition, he noted, “Their alliances change frequently. There’s little more to discuss regarding them.”

Regarding the ongoing eviction operations throughout the state, Mallabaruah stated that the government is addressing encroachments that have lingered since the administrations of former Congress leaders Gopinath Bordoloi and Bishnu Ram Medhi.

“These eviction actions are taken in the interest of the indigenous Assamese community. No one is permitted to encroach on forest land and establish settlements,” he remarked, reiterating the government's commitment to safeguarding the rights of local residents.

In May, the BJP declared its intention to independently contest all 40 seats in the Council elections.

Notably, all NDA partners will also participate independently, with the AGP targeting approximately 10 seats.
