Assam Government Reshuffles Bureaucracy Ahead of Assembly Elections
Major Bureaucratic Changes in Assam
Guwahati, Mar 5: In preparation for the upcoming Assembly Elections, the Assam government has executed a significant reshuffle involving 15 senior IAS and state service officers across various districts.
According to an announcement made by Personnel Department Secretary Monita Borgohain on Wednesday, Partha Pratim Majumdar, the Home and Political Commissioner & Secretary, has been reassigned as the District Commissioner of Bajali.
The current District Commissioner of Bajali, Mridul Kumar Das, will now serve as Additional Secretary for the Home & Political, Women & Child Development Departments, and will also take on the role of State Coordinator for the NRC and CEO of the e-Foreigners Tribunal Project.
Narendra Kumar Shah, who was the Director of Employment & Craftsmen Training, is now appointed as Secretary in the Chief Minister's Secretariat, while Aditya Vikram Yadav has been designated as the new District Commissioner of Lakhimpur.
Pronab Jit Kakoty, the outgoing DC of Lakhimpur, will transition to Additional Secretary in the Skill Employment & Entrepreneurship Department and will also serve as the Director of Employment & Craftsmen Training.
Preeti Kumari, Joint Secretary of the General Administration Department, will take over as the new DC of West Karbi Anglong, replacing Saranga Pani Sarma, who has been moved to the Transport Department as Secretary and will also be the State Project Director of the Assam Inland Water Transport Development Society.
Ayushi Jain, currently Joint Secretary of the Finance Department, is appointed as the DC of Darrang, while Pubali Gohain will assume the role of DC in Golaghat.
The existing Golaghat DC, Parag Kumar Kakaty, will now serve as Additional Secretary in the Revenue & Disaster Management Department and will also be the Additional CEO of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), as per the order.
Meenakshi Das Nath, who is currently the Additional CEO of ASDMA, will be relieved from this position but will continue as Secretary of the Revenue & Disaster Management and Project Director of the Assam Integrated River Basin Management Project.
Gautam Das, the DC of Baksa, has been appointed as Secretary in the Panchayat & Rural Development Department, while Dhiraj Saud, previously Secretary of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), will take over as the new DC of Baksa.
Jatin Bora, the DC of Chirang, will now serve as Secretary in the General Administration Department, and Gakul Chandra Brahma, Secretary of BTC, will become the new DC of Chirang.
The Assam Assembly elections, covering 126 constituencies, are anticipated to occur in April this year. This election will mark the first assembly election following the delimitation exercise conducted in 2023.
