Assam Government Prioritizes Development in Barak Valley
Commitment to Infrastructure Development
Silchar, Dec 16: The Assam government is dedicated to the comprehensive and timely development of the Barak Valley, as stated by Cabinet Minister Kaushik Rai on Tuesday. He emphasized that delivering quality infrastructure within set deadlines is a primary focus for the administration.
In line with ongoing oversight efforts, the Minister for Barak Valley Development recently evaluated the construction status of the Integrated District Commissioner’s Office and the Circuit House.
Additionally, he led a high-level review meeting concerning the Barak Valley Secretariat project, urging the Public Works Department (Buildings) and involved agencies to expedite progress while upholding construction quality.
District Commissioner Mridul Yadav provided an update, revealing that both the District Library auditorium and the Barak Valley Secretariat have surpassed 50% completion. He mentioned that the administration aims to finalize significant portions of the projects by mid-January next year.
Regarding the District Library initiative, Yadav explained that the main auditorium will accommodate 850 seats, alongside a mini auditorium with a capacity of 250 seats to meet long-standing public requests.
Concerning the Barak Valley Secretariat complex located at Srikona, the DC highlighted that while essential components are being prioritized, additional facilities, including the auditorium and related works, will be completed in subsequent phases.
He described the Secretariat as a significant achievement for the region, expressing hopes of hosting a Cabinet meeting there once it becomes operational.
The review meeting included senior officials from the PWD (Buildings), the District Commissioner, and representatives from the contracting firms.
