Investment in Dairy Farming

Jorhat, Feb 26: On Tuesday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that the state is considering the establishment of a significant dairy facility in Mariani, with an investment projected at ₹200 crore.

Sarma expressed optimism that this initiative would greatly benefit local residents and promote self-sufficiency.

He mentioned that the government plans to support individuals in starting dairy farming, with milk being collected through cooperative societies for processing at the plant. "Subsequently, the government will assist in marketing the milk," the Chief Minister stated.

During the cheque distribution event for the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) at Boisahabi Tea Estate near Selenghat in Jorhat district, Sarma highlighted the government's efforts to empower women economically and socially, which he believes is transforming their lives.

He noted that over the past five years, his administration has launched various initiatives aimed at women's empowerment, with MMUA, also known as the Lakhpati Baideo scheme, being a key program.

Sarma announced that 29,000 beneficiaries from the Mariani Assembly constituency would gain from MMUA, while a total of 32 lakh women across the state would be included in the scheme.

He also criticized previous Congress administrations, claiming that their distribution of yarn, blankets, lungis, and mosquito nets was marred by irregularities, leaving many eligible beneficiaries without assistance.

Highlighting the state's commitment to women's welfare, Sarma mentioned that currently, 40 lakh women benefit monthly from the Orunodoi scheme, another flagship initiative aimed at supporting women.
