Assam Government Offers Financial Aid to Shooting Victims Along Border
Financial Support for Injured Individuals

Guwahati, Aug 15: The Assam administration has declared a financial aid of ₹2 lakh for each of the 11 individuals injured in a shooting incident attributed to assailants from Arunachal Pradesh along the interstate border in Dhemaji district on August 10. This event is reportedly connected to a land encroachment conflict.
The injured individuals have been named as Utpal Doley, Bhaijan Doley, Pame Pegu, Bitupan Doley, Bigeswar Patir, Bishnu Pegu, Lakhi Prasad Lagachu, Rakesh Doley, Sanjay Tayung, Rohit Doley, and Rakesh Lagachu.
Ranoj Pegu, the State Education Minister and MLA from Dhemaji, was assigned by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to monitor the situation. He confirmed on Friday that the Chief Minister approved the financial assistance, and the cheques will be distributed to the injured individuals on Saturday.
Pegu also visited the injured at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh on Friday to evaluate their health status.
As per the minister, eight of the injured are currently receiving treatment at the Super Speciality Block of AMCH, under the care of Superintendent Dr. Dhrubajyoti Bhuyan and a medical team.
“Today, one injured individual underwent surgery. Another person with eye injuries is scheduled for surgery tomorrow. The doctors have assured that all the injured are stable and will likely be discharged soon,” Pegu stated.
The shooting incident took place on August 10 in Bodoti village under Ming Mang Gaon Panchayat when villagers from Assam reportedly faced an attack from armed individuals from Arunachal Pradesh amid a dispute over alleged agricultural land encroachment.
At least 11 individuals suffered gunshot wounds, with several sustaining serious injuries.
In the aftermath of the incident, tensions rose along the interstate border, leading to protests and calls for accountability from the authorities.
Following the violence, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma contacted Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu to request a formal investigation into the matter.
Khandu assured a fair inquiry, while both state administrations took measures to ease tensions and uphold peace in the border region.
Subsequent protests and sporadic tensions were reported in the days following the shooting, with security forces remaining deployed in sensitive areas.
The Assam government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring medical care for the injured and pursuing necessary actions through administrative and legal avenues.
