Guwahati, July 17: The Assam Government is actively working to enhance the state's sports ecosystem through various infrastructure developments, high-performance training facilities, and grassroots initiatives aimed at fostering athlete growth and boosting its representation in both national and international sports.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the importance of investing in youth to cultivate sporting talent and help them achieve their aspirations on a global scale. He highlighted that this initiative combines infrastructure development, training, and equipment support.

Sarma noted that Assam's sporting journey is evolving from local venues to the global stage, facilitated by initiatives aimed at discovering, nurturing, and supporting talent at all levels.

As part of this initiative, the government plans to establish High Performance Sports Training and Rehabilitation Centres in three cities, which will offer scientific coaching, sports science assistance, and injury management services for athletes.

Additionally, the state is distributing sports equipment to youth clubs across all Assembly constituencies to promote grassroots involvement and identify promising talent from both rural and urban settings.

Key infrastructure projects include the redevelopment of the Radha Govinda Baruah Sports Complex and the construction of an open stadium at the Amingaon Sports Complex.

The expansion of Khanikar Stadium in Dibrugarh is also underway, aimed at enhancing sporting facilities in Upper Assam and accommodating larger sporting events.

Moreover, an Archery Academy is being set up in Sonari to leverage the region's traditional strengths in archery and develop athletes capable of competing at national and international levels.

The government's initiatives are part of a comprehensive youth empowerment strategy that aims to identify and nurture talent early on, providing pathways for athletes to compete at higher levels.

With numerous projects in progress across various regions of the state, the government anticipates that these initiatives will bolster Assam's sports infrastructure and create more opportunities for young athletes to engage in competitive sports.
